Justin Sees God at Work at Youth Summer Camp

Justin Flemming, a junior at the University of Michigan-Flint studying mechanical engineering, volunteered this summer with a summer youth camp in Flint. He is a member of Holy Redeemer Parish in Burton.

“Working with all of the kids has been fun and new for me. I haven’t had much Vacation Bible School experience and this was my first time helping with the Flint Summer Mission. But being able to do my part and be there for the kids has been very rewarding. Seeing the kids learn about God through Scripture passages and having fun with creating capes and playing in the field has been fantastic. The kids have impacted my faith by seeing how God works in mustard seed ways, where God doesn’t push you off the deep end and expect you to be perfect, he gradually shows himself to you as you continue to grow. That applies still to my life, as I am 20 years old, there is always more, and always more growth.”

“There are so many things that pop into my mind when I think about my favorite part of being Catholic. Everything I think of points back to Jesus: Mass, reconciliation, service for others, community, the saints and angels, virtues and gifts from the Holy Spirit, Scripture, adoration. Again, they all point back to Jesus and they all are good, true and beautiful.”
