Deacon Rogelio Alfaro of Cristo Rey Parish in Lansing died on Sept. 13 at the age of 84. Deacon Alfaro served Cristo Rey for more than 40 years. Prior to his ordination to the permanent diaconate in 1981, Deacon Alfaro worked at Saginaw Steering Gear and completed degrees in education and counseling from Michigan State University. He served as a guidance counselor at Lansing Community College until he retired in 2008. A memorial Mass was celebrated on Sept. 21 at Cristo Rey.
