Top Scholars to Address Faith and Science at the 45th Annual Summer Scripture Conference at the University of St. Mary of the Lake

For 45 years, the Summer Scripture Conference at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary has brought together curious minds from across the country for lively presentations on various aspects of the Bible and faith. This year’s conference — Let There Be Light: Science and the Word, An Eternal Relationship — will be offered online and in-person on the university campus from June 20–25, 2021, to examine the connection between science and faith through a biblical lens. Tickets and more information can be found at www.summerscripture.org.

The conference’s faculty speaker lineup features top biblical scholars and theologians from across the country, including: Brother Guy Consolmagno, SJ, director of the Vatican Observatory; Father Robert J. Spitzer, SJ, host of the weekly EWTN show, Father Spitzer’s Universe; Dr. Stacy Trasancos, executive director of Bishop Joseph Strickland’s St. Philip Institute in Tyler, TX; Dr. Tina J. Wray, professor of religious and theological studies at Salve Regina University in Newport, RI; Dr. Joe Paprocki, national consultant for faith formation at Loyola Press; and Dr. Craig S. Keener, professor of biblical studies at Asbury Theological Seminary.

“With the intensifying rate of scientific advancement and discovery, the eternal truth of the ancient biblical texts becomes even more relevant for providing a universal context that transcends the interpretation of the latest lab data,” said Father John Kartje, the rector/president of USML/Mundelein Seminary.

Father Kartje, who holds doctoral degrees in astrophysics and sacred theology, will offer two talks during the conference.

“While COVID-19 restrictions prevent us from gathering our usual large number of conference attendees in person,” he said, “I’m hopeful that this year’s event can reach an even larger audience by streaming online.”

Visit www.summerscripture.org for full pricing options of in-person attendance and online streaming of the conference talks. All COVID-19 guidelines outlined by the CDC will be followed for this event.
