Tea with Dymphna

It is estimated that more than 1 in 5 adults in the United States experience some form of mental illness each year. So where do they turn for help? One initial source of solace and counsel is the podcast Tea with Dymphna. It is hosted by two licensed Catholic psychotherapists, Lauren White and Elisabeth Flanagan. Both are based in the Diocese of Lansing. As Elisabeth explains, “Through our podcast, we share the experiences and insights we have gained over the years through the lens of two people who love Jesus, hoping to spread hope and healing through educating and inspiring growth.”

For those who don’t know, St. Dymphna is a seventh-century martyr whose feast day is on May 15. She is the patron saint of people suffering from mental illness as well as mental health professionals. Under her heavenly patronage, Elisabeth and Lauren invite listeners to "grab a mug" and join their weekly conversations about issues including self-esteem, boundaries in relationships, therapy experiences, healing from family wounds, honoring difficult parents, forgiveness, and habits for inner peace. The podcast is both wary of over-spiritualizing mental health struggles, while also recognizing the relationship between our metaphysical, physical, and mental wellbeing.

The Tea with Dymphna podcast was launched early last year, with episodes dropping on a regular and reliable basis, and is available on most major platforms including Apple, Spotify, Amazon, and YouTube.
