The Dominican Sisters Open Mic

The Dominican Sisters Open Mic is a media apostolate of the Ann Arbor-based Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist. As beloved daughters of the Diocese of Lansing, we'd like to think that FAITH magazine is ahead of the cultural curve in recommending this podcast. But alas, of all publications, Cosmopolitan magazine got there before us. In June of this year, the women's lifestyle magazine hailed Open Mic as "the happiest, most wholesome corner of the internet right now." They are not alone in making this discovery.

According to data from Spotify, listenership to The Dominican Sisters Open Mic podcast increased by more than 3,500 percent between February and June. Meanwhile, Millennials and members of Generation Z account for 84 percent of the podcast's audience on the platform.

Hosted by Sister Miriam, OP, the weekly Open Mic podcast features conversations among the Dominican Sisters, with occasional guests from outside their community. The discussions encompass "all things Dominican"—which, if you know anything about the Dominican Order, leaves very little out.

For example: How did a zombie movie lead Sister Elizabeth John to join the convent? What did St. Albert the Great teach about the sacraments? What can St. Mary of Bethany teach us about building a life of prayer? And how can Sister Peter Thomas help you integrate the Liturgy of the Hours into your daily routine? For the answers to these questions, and many more besides, tune in to The Dominican Sisters Open Mic and find out.
