Godsplaining
There can be few religious organizations that have shaped our culture more than the Order of Preachers, also known as the Dominicans.
There can be few religious organizations that have shaped our culture more than the Order of Preachers, also known as the Dominicans.
Since their founding in 1216 by Saint Dominic de Guzmán, the order has emphasized study, contemplation, community, and apostolic work. This divinely inspired approach was summed up by the great Dominican St. Thomas Aquinas, as Contemplare et contemplata aliis tradere or “To contemplate and to share the fruits of contemplation.”
Those fruits continue to be shared today, Deo gratias, albeit via new methods of communication, including podcasting. Hence, this month’s FAITH podcast recommendation is Godsplaining.
Godsplaining is hosted by four young Dominican friars of the Province of St. Joseph. That’s one of the four Dominican provinces in the U.S., extending from New England to Virginia and Ohio.
Each week, two members of this black-cloaked fab four sit down and apply the Church’s wisdom to the challenges of daily life: how to deepen your faith, pray with confidence, and tackle today’s difficult issues.
This includes intelligent analysis of contemporary culture. What is the legacy of the late Charlie Kirk? What’s the significance of Taylor Swift? Why should Catholics know about the 20th-century French philosopher Michel Foucault? Godsplaining tackles all these issues, and more. Check it out.
