My first “real” boss doesn’t provide feedback

You have landed your first real job. You work hard to prove yourself. You arrive early and leave late. But your boss doesn’t give you any positive feedback. How can you find satisfaction at work when your environment is not encouraging your efforts?

1. Stay the course. Continue to work hard and be true to yourself and your work ethic. God gave you certain talents to use for his glory – to deny those talents is to deny God’s gift.

2. Have an honest conversation with your boss. Let him or her know you would love to have feedback regarding your performance and you are open to constructive criticism.

3. Find a mentor within your office or team. Is there someone with whom you really connect? Ask to meet over coffee and find out if they would be willing to show you the ropes in your first professional position. Most people are very open to this role.

4. Pray about Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, do from the heart, as for the Lord and not for others.” Bring your needs and concerns to the foot of the cross. You will be encouraged through Christ.
