Dear reader,
From next month on, FAITH Magazine will be introducing a new Culture Section. Why a culture section? Let me explain.
As the English Catholic historian, Christopher Dawson (1889 - 1970), rightly observes: “all culture derives from cult”. By that, Dawson means that the culture surrounding us is informed and inspired by our religious beliefs, both individual and collective. Bad religion creates an unhealthy culture. Good religion creates a healthy culture. What is more, the relationship between the two is symbiotic: we shape our culture and then our culture shapes us.
Hence, we should strive to inhabit an authentically Catholic culture that imbues our lives and, especially, our homes with all that is good, true, and beautiful, knowing that each draws us into an ever more happy and harmonious relationship with God – who is Goodness, Truth, and Beauty itself – and with others, including our family and friends.
But what to watch, read, listen to? That’s where the new Culture Section comes in. Month by month, we at FAITH Magazine will make cultural suggestions for you and your family to explore and, please God, enjoy. Books. Films. Art. Poetry. Television. Podcasts. And more besides. We pray you will find it worthwhile.
Yours in Christ,
Sean O’Neill
