Bishop Thomas Daly ordained three new permanent deacons at St. Patrick’s Parish in Pasco just before Lent, increasing the parish’s ability to celebrate the sacraments and guide the faithful. Get to know the new deacons:

 Deacon Ulises Aguilera

Born in Michoacán, Mexico, in 1970, Ulises Aguilera came to the United States in 1986 when he was 16. He and his wife, Raquel, have been married for 33 years and have three children. In 2008, they moved to Pasco and joined St. Patrick Parish. There, they became involved in Cursillo, the Grupo de Oracion, jail ministry, and marriage formation. In 2016, Ulises started the deacon formation program of the Diocese of Yakima. Raquel is the religious education director at St. Patrick.

“I would like first of all to thank God and Our Lady of Lourdes, our patroness in our Diocese of Spokane, to whom I am consecrating my diaconate,” Aguilera said on the day of his ordination. “I’d also like to thank our Most Reverend Bishop Thomas Daly for ordaining us on this special day. Also, our pastor, Father Robert Turner, for his continual support from the first day he came to our parish in Pasco. Also, I want to thank all the different priests in our diocese—since a little piece of their life is in our formation—all the deacons in our parish and from different parishes who inspired us to serve God in the ministry of charity,  and every single parishioner at St. Patrick in Pasco for their support and appreciation. And in a very special way, I want to thank my family, wife, and kids who had given me complete support during this transition. Please keep praying for us, as I will be praying for all of you.”

Nacido en Michoacán México en 1970, Ulises Aguilera llegó a los Estado Unidos en 1986 cuando tenía 16 años. Él y su esposa Raquel Aguilera han estado casados por 33 años y tiene 3 hijos. En el 2008 se mudaron a Pasco y se unieron a la Parroquia de San Patricio, se involucraron en el Curcillo, Grupo de Oración, ministerio de la cárcel, y formación matrimonial. En el 2006 inició el Programa de Formación de Diáconos de la diócesis de Yakima. Raquel es la directora del programa de educación religiosa en San Patricio.

“En primer lugar, quiero agradecer a Dios y a Nuestra Señora de Lourdes, nuestra patrona en la Diócesis de Spokane, a quien consagro mi diaconado. Y a nuestro Reverendísimo Obispo Thomas Daly por ordenarnos en este día tan especial. También a nuestro Pastor el Padre Roberto Turner por su continuo apoyo desde el primer día que vino a nuestra Parroquia en Pasco. Además, quiero agradecer a todos los diferentes sacerdotes de nuestra Diócesis ya que una pequeña parte de su vida está en nuestra formación, a todos los diáconos de nuestra parroquia y de las diferentes parroquias que nos inspiraron a servir a Dios en el ministerio de la Caridad, a cada uno de los feligreses en San Patricio en Pasco por su apoyo y aprecio. Y de una manera muy especial quiero agradecer a mi familia, esposa e hijos que me brindaron un apoyo total durante esta transición. Por favor, sigan orando por nosotros, ya que yo estaré orando por todos ustedes”.

Deacon Julio Cesar Rendon

Julio Cesar Rendon and his wife, Griselda, have been married for 25 years. St. Patrick has been their parish for 12 years. They have been involved in the Grupo de Oracion, Retrouvaille, as sacristans, and coordinators of the altar servers.

“I am grateful for this opportunity to express my gratitude, first of all, to God for calling me to work in his vineyard, and to our Reverend Bishop Thomas A. Daly for ordaining me as a permanent deacon for the Diocese of Spokane and our St. Patrick Parish,” Rendon said. “To our pastor, Robert Turner, for his great support throughout the formation and ordination process. To my wife, my children, and my entire family for their unconditional support, which encouraged me to stand firm to this call. To the permanent deacons of our parish for their practical pastoral teachings. To the parishioners of our community for your prayers at all times.”

Julio Cesar Rendon y su esposa Griselda llevan casados 25 años. San Patricio ha sido su parroquia durante 12 años. Han estado involucrados en el Grupo de Oración, Retrouvaille, como sacristanes y coordinadores de los monaguillos.

“Agradezco esta oportunidad de expresar mi gratitud, en primer lugar, a Dios por llamarme a trabajar en su viña. A nuestro Reverendo Obispo Thomas A. Daly por ordenarme como diácono permanente para la Diócesis de Spokane y nuestra Parroquia San Patricio. A nuestro Pastor Roberto Turner por su gran apoyo durante todo el proceso de formación y ordenación. A mi esposa, mis hijos y toda mi familia por su apoyo incondicional, que me animó a mantenerme firme en este llamado. A los diáconos permanentes de nuestra parroquia por sus enseñanzas pastorales prácticas. A los feligreses de nuestra comunidad por sus oraciones en todo momento”.

Deacon Arturo Biebrich

Arturo Biebrich was born in 1973 and has been married 21 years to his wife, Veronica;  they have three children and four grandchildren. Since 2008, they have served in several ministries at St. Patrick: as catechists, lectors, sacristans, extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist, visiting the sick and elderly, and in RCIA, Retrouvaille, Movement Mariano Theotokos, and cooking for the homeless at Tri-City Union Gospel Mission.

“I want to express my gratitude first to God for giving me the opportunity to live, to my parents for taking this challenge of teaching me to appreciate life and knowing how to fight for its preservation, to the Church for giving me the opportunity through baptism to become son of God ‘priest, prophet and king’; without forgetting our wives and children for their unconditional support and life of prayer,” Biebrich said. “I thank the Diocese of Yakima for our diaconal preparation, and of course, the Diocese of Spokane for its support for the realization of our ordination, our community of St. Patrick, in Pasco, Washington, our pastor, Robert Turner, and his associates, without forgetting other fathers who have been involved in our formation lives, thanks to each and every one of them; to the surrounding communities for your prayers and so that we can work for you and first of all for the glory of the Lord Our God, always accompanied by our little Mother, Mary, Most Holy. Thanks!”

Nació en 1973 y casado por 21 años con su esposa Verónica; tienen 3 hijos y 4 nietos. Desde el 2008, han estado sirviendo en varios ministerios en San Patricio: Catequistas, Lectores, Sacristanes, Ministros Extraordinarios de la Eucaristía, visitando a los enfermos y ancianos, RICA, Retrouvaille, Movimiento Mariano Theotokos, y cocinando para los Desamparados en Tri-City Union Gospel Mission.

“Quiero expresar mi gratitud primero a Dios por darme la oportunidad de vivir, a mis padres por tomar este desafío de enseñarme a apreciar la vida y saber luchar por su preservación, a la Iglesia por darme la oportunidad a través del bautismo de convertirme en hijo de Dios ¨sacerdote, profeta y rey¨; sin olvidar a nuestras esposas e hijos por su apoyo incondicional y vida de oración. Agradezco a la Diócesis de Yakima por nuestra preparación diaconal y por supuesto a la Diócesis de Spokane por su apoyo para la realización de nuestra ordenación, nuestra comunidad de San Patricio, en Pasco WA, nuestro Pastor Padre Roberto Turner y sus asociados, sin olvidar a otros Padres que se han involucrado en nuestra vida de formación, gracias a todos y cada uno de ellos; a las comunidades circundantes por sus oraciones y para que podamos trabajar por ustedes y ante todo por la gloria del Señor Nuestro Dios, siempre acompañados de nuestra mamita, María Santísima. Gracias”.

Deacons Ulises, Julio, and Arturo join five active deacons at St. Patrick. The deacons are the primary ministers for baptisms, funeral vigils, and burials. The parish has approximately 400 baptisms and 70 funerals each year. Each deacon is also involved in the parish’s charitable works and catechetics. During the pandemic, deacons have assured weekday adoration between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. They also serve at the Sunday liturgies; there have been 12 during the pandemic.

Los diáconos Ulises, Julio y Arturo se unen a cinco diáconos activos en San Patricio. Los diáconos son los ministros principales de bautismo, vigilias de funerales y sepulturas. La parroquia tiene aproximadamente 400 bautismos y 70 funerales cada año. Cada diacono también está involucrado en las obras de caridad y catequesis de la parroquia. Durante la pandemia, los diáconos se han asegurado de tener adoración del Santísimo entre semana de las 6:30 am 7 7:30 am. También sirven en las liturgias dominicales; ha habido 12 durante la pandemia.
