The Catholic Foundation of Eastern Washington Board awarded grants at its April meeting to a diverse set of religious education and community outreach providers. Here is a summary of the Catholic Foundation’s 2020 grants. They are also listed on the foundation’s website, along with the application for a 2021 grant.

1 PROJECT TIMOTHY, Dayton—Sponsored by St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dayton and with cooperative support from St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Waitsburg, the funds will provide food, rental assistance, and emergency housing to adults and children.

2 TASTY KIDS’ SUMMER PROGRAM, Chewelah—The Temporary Added Sustenance to Youth project, overseen by Father Stephen Booth, pastor of St. Mary of the Rosary Catholic Church, provides healthy breakfasts and lunches to low-income children in Chewelah and Valley.

3 CURSILLO, Walla Walla, Pasco, Othello, Kennewick—The project has an ecumenical dimension and serves primarily low-income Hispanic communities from nine parishes in the Spokane Diocese.

4 JUNIOR ENCOUNTER AT TRI-CITIES PREP, Pasco—Funds will be used for student retreats at Immaculate Heart Retreat Center.

5 IMMACULATE HEART RETREAT CENTER, Spokane—Funds will go to Search Retreats for students from DeSales, Gonzaga Prep, and Tri-Cities Prep.

6 SECULAR FRANCISCAN FRATERNITY FOOD BANK, Dayton-Waitsburg—Funds will provide meals for low-income families at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.

7 CATHOLIC NEWMAN CENTER AT EWU, Cheney—Funds will be used for “The Light of Truth” Conference planning, preparation, and materials sponsored by Father Paul Heric and his team.

8 PERSONS IN NEED (PIN-2), Newport—Father Victor Blazovich, pastor of St. Anthony’s, and his team will use the funds in collaboration with hospital and health services to work with low-income, elderly people in need.

9 CHENEY OUTREACH CENTER, Cheney—Funds will be used directly to keep low income people from being evicted.

10 RELIGIOUS EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN AT ST. JOSEPH PARISH, Spokane—Most of the families are immigrants who speak little English, so these funds will be used to purchase appropriate language materials.

11 NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING, Spokane— Funds will be used for tuition for women wanting to attend NFP classes at Sacred Heart Medical Center's nationally ranked program.

12 VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL, Otis Orchards—The Catholic Foundation funds will be used for students in economic need.

13 YOUTH MINISTRY (JOINT NORTHSIDE) XLT WORSHIP NIGHTS, Spokane—Funds will provide support for the new music-oriented initiative to create an environment for high school students to connect with God.

14 HISPANIC YOUTH MINISTRY, Brewster—The grant will provide support for students to attend the Spokane Diocesan Catholic Youth Conference.

15 TRINITY MIDDLE SCHOOL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM, Spokane—The grant will provide funding for an after-school, post-Educare program that is educational as well as enjoyable.

16 SECURITY SYSTEM FOR CHESTERTON ACADEMY, Spokane—This grant will provide partial funding for a security system for Chesterton Academy.

17 LIVING WITH CHRIST RETREAT, Connell—The CF board notes the success of St. Vincent’s annual parish retreat that grew out of the Know, Love, Serve program. The grant will support this ongoing retreat program.

18 ST. VINCENT DE PAUL AT MARY QUEEN PARISH, Spokane—The Catholic Foundation grant will assist the SVdP team in providing rent, utility payments, food, and emergency household items in the Hillyard and surrounding neighborhoods.

19 BIBLES FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN, Walla Walla—Father Matthew Nicks plans to purchase, with this grant, several new Spanish and English Bibles for families in all three Walla Walla parishes.

20 MUSIC MINISTRY SEMINAR, Spokane—In recognition of the central role that music plays in liturgy and the life of the Church, the board awarded a grant in support of Henry Bauer, director of music at the cathedral, to design a diocesan conference aimed at musicians, sacristans, and others for education and inspiration, to be held in fall 2020.

21 VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL, Clarkston—Funds will support a continued collaboration between the Catholic and Presbyterian church leadership in Clarkston.

22 BIBLES AND LEADER GUIDES, Pullman—Sacred Heart Parish will use the grant to purchase whole Bibles (and leader guides).

23 CLASSICAL EDUCATION CURRICULAR RESOURCES, Spokane—New religious education materials will be purchased to accommodate the new classical curriculum at St. Charles School.

24 CATHOLIC NEWMAN CENTER, WSU, Pullman—The grant will be used to purchase commercial appliances for a kitchen that provides a weekly dinner for poor and less-advantaged community members.

25 OUR PLACE, Spokane—The grant will purchase bus passes.

26 BISHOP WHITE SEMINARY, Spokane—The CF grant will support videoconferencing technology for the Bishop White Room.
