Sister Agnette Bengal, a native of Westphalia, celebrated her 107th birthday on Feb. 4, and will celebrate 90 years as a vowed religious on June 29. Taught by the Sisters of Christian Charity as a child, Sister Agnette entered their community when she was 16 to begin teaching at age 19. She earned her bachelor‘s degree from Loyola University in Chicago and a master’s degree from St. Louis University.

Members of her community describe Sister Agnette as very dedicated, energetic and someone who could never do enough for others. Until restricted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Sister Agnette delivered clerical material between the convent and the pastoral center from her wheelchair with help from an assistant.
