A Grateful Church

As wave three of the Diocese of Lansing’s Stewardship for Saints and Scholars campaign comes to an end, we pause with deep gratitude for what God has accomplished through his people. This historic effort to strengthen Catholic education and parish formation has been an invitation to give to and participate in the mission of the Church in a profound and enduring way.

To date, the faithful of this diocese have responded with remarkable generosity: More than $64 million has been pledged, and over 12,800 donors are united in a shared vision for our schools, families, and parishes. Each gift, large or small, sacrificial or joyful, is a testament to your belief in Catholic education as a cornerstone of faith and discipleship.

From the earliest reporting on the campaign’s launch to its final weeks, FAITH Magazine has followed stories of hope, trust, and participation. Volunteers shared why Catholic education matters in their families’ lives. Pastors and parish leaders testified to the campaign’s power to strengthen their communities. Educators described how campaign-funded formation is shaping teachers who form saints and scholars in classrooms across the diocese.

The campaign was built around priorities that reflect both practical need and spiritual purpose. We have made our schools more on-mission, affordable, and accessible, and we have empowered local initiatives that respond to each parish’s unique needs. These pillars guided how funds would be directed and how we as a Church would understand our shared calling to form young disciples of Christ.

Because of your generosity:

  • New teachers are receiving formation, signing bonuses, and support that help ensure our Catholic classrooms are both academically excellent and spiritually vibrant.
  • Tuition assistance has grown and new family grants have been issued, opening doors for more families to choose a Catholic education for their children.
  • Support for students with special needs and enhancements at our regional schools has increased, helping every child flourish in faith and learning.
  • Parishes are being strengthened with local initiatives, from school expansions to faith formation programs rooted in their own communities.

This campaign was about enhancing Catholic education in the Diocese of Lansing, while also uniting parishes, schools and families around a common mission. Through your generosity, this shared mission is now lived out across the diocese in ways that will form faith and community for generations to come.

Many of the articles published in FAITH Magazine highlighted people at the center of this work because stewardship lived out in family kitchens, parish pews, and teacher lounges is what gives life to any campaign. These personal reflections remind us that Catholic education is not an abstract ideal but a lived reality, shaping hearts and minds for Christ.

As we celebrate what has been achieved, we also look forward with confidence. Funds raised through the  Stewardship for Saints and Scholars campaign will be stewarded with care as projects are completed, programs are expanded, and long-term commitments are fulfilled. What this campaign has set in motion is not temporary. It is an investment in the future of the Church in central and southern Michigan.

Thank you to every donor, volunteer, pastor, teacher, parent, and student who has been part of this journey. Your faithfulness to the mission of Catholic education has strengthened our schools, supported our families, and given hope to the generations yet to be formed in truth and love.

As Bishop Earl Boyea has often reminded us, we are called to preserve our faith and to pass it on. This campaign has done exactly that — nurturing saints and scholars who will carry Christ’s light into the world.

Deo gratias — thanks be to God, and thanks be to you.
