SINSINAWA, Wis.—The Dominicans Sisters of Sinsinawa have been called by Pope Francis to help carry out his encyclical, Laudato Si’ (On Care for Our Common Home), by using the encyclical as a lens to explore their current practices and integrate “Laudato Si’” more fully into their mission. Sister Toni Harris, OP, Prioress of the Congregation, stated, “We are excited to begin this journey trusting that, together with others, grounded in hope, we can make the transformation necessary to improve the future of Earth.” 

The Congregation’s public commitment statement to take action on “Laudato Si’” follows: We, the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa, are impelled by God’s tender mercy to commit ourselves in partnership with others to seek and foster right relationships among all God’s people and with Earth that sustains us; thus, we dedicate ourselves to care for our common home in response to the urgent summons of Pope Francis’ encyclical. Pope Francis challenges the worldwide Catholic community and “all men and women of good will” to embark on a seven-year journey toward integral ecology (a wholistic approach to political, social, economic, and environmental problems). Rooted in our Dominican charism, we publicly commit ourselves to the Laudato Si’ action platform—a process of transformation so that our mission more fully aligns with the values in Laudato Si’, especially responding to the cry of Earth and the cry of the poor.
