Marian Consecration renewed locally at Bishop White Chapel and live online

On May 1, Bishop Thomas Daly, joined by the Seminarians at Bishop White Seminary and the Missionaries of Charity, lead the diocese via livestream through a renewal of the diocese’s, and nation’s, Marian Consecration.

The Diocese of Spokane was consecrated to Mary in 1954 in a large public ceremony at the Spokane Colosseum, the predecessor to today’s Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.  While the renewal of the consecration on May 1, 2020, was not as grand in scale, its meaning for the diocese and for nation was profound; Spokane joined all dioceses in the U.S. and Canada in renewing their consecrations to Mary.

During the coronavirus pandemic, Bishop Daly spoke to Mary’s identity during his homily. “Mary is a mother, who loves all of us her children, especially those who suffer.” He added, “in this time of isolation, illness, and sadly even death, we continue to turn as a people to her protection and intercession.”

Bishop Daly concluded by saying,  “Let us pray for the grace to stand with her, knowing that her son, our savior is always with us.”
