Pat O’Hearn - First female Director of Development for the Diocese of Lansing

Q: How was your faith the foundation of your role as Director of Development for the Diocese of Lansing?

A: My faith helped me understand that fund development is, first and foremost, a ministry. I was amazingly blessed to serve as Director of Development for the Diocese of Lansing. In this role, I was able to offer the people of our diocese the opportunity to participate in the mission and vision of the Diocese of Lansing and the wider Church.

Q: Is there a person who inspired you along the way?

A: I am continually inspired by the people of our diocese. Their faith-filled generosity is incredible. I experienced a great release of joy seeing people invest in something they deeply care about. I always believed I was inviting people to invest their resources in the work of God.

Q: Was there a defining moment in my ministry?

A: What stands out in my mind is the time I spent working with our Catholic Charities Agencies. I was able to observe the work our agency directors do each day, and meet and talk with some of the people who received the services. It is very moving to see, first-hand, the energy of the people who work in our agencies, as well as what can be accomplished as a result of our generous donors’ prayers and support.

Q: What would you tell your younger self about not giving up on achieving your goals?

A: Stand tall and believe that you have something important to offer. Remain dedicated to your beliefs. Constantly remind yourself that everyone must overcome failures and defeats on the path to achieving goals. Develop lasting relationships along the way. Above all else, stay prayerfully committed to your goals.
